Kumasi Cafe

Join us in our groovy café bar for some tantalizing cocktails while listening to some soothing tunes, or lie back and relax on our wooden sundeck overlooking the pool and take in the outstanding panoramic views of Table Mountain. Our popular weekly pool competition (Tuesday nights) and all the other activities and events we offer in the Kumasi Cafe make it a central gathering point.

Many a decadent night can be spent here partying with fellow travellers and our local staff - sometimes it just madness! Watch the latest sports action on satellite television or, snack on an ice-cream-covered waffle or a quick milkshake and try the local and regional beers.

Lights meals are available from 7.30am to 10pm and in the morning you can feast on our scrumptiously healthy all-you-can-eat buffet or order a big hearty fry-up. Our menu includes nachos and burgers as well as tasty fresh crisp salads and quick toasties.

I-Cafe and Wi-Fi

Our I-Cafe offers 24-hour internet access so you can keep in touch with the rest of the world.  What better way to update your friends and family on your (mis)adventures in Africa and Cape Town. 

Now we also have wi-fi so you can use your phone or any other internet device to connect – sorry, not available in the guest houses.  Each guest gets one free hour (40mb download) per day.

Travel Centre

We have a full Travel Centre with qualified Travel Consultants who will be able to book anything for you from flights, car rental, bus tickets, and day trips to exciting Overland expeditions.

Let them plan your journey to make your holiday a truly unforgettable experience.  They are also on hand to do foreign exchange deals at great rates.

Swimming Pool

Our sparkling swimming pool is great for those really hot summer days.

Book a pool lounger early as they are in great demand or grab a water toy to gently float around the pool while you plan your evening's entertainment. 

Communal Kitchen

For those of you who have to (or want to) cook for yourself because you have spent all your cash, we have a huge fully equipped self-catering kitchen.

The hot water is always bubbling here for your complimentary tea and coffee and the huge fridge keeps your groceries cold.

Garden

Chill out in a hammock amongst the tranquil surroundings of our front garden that is shaded by many palm trees and watch the squirrels hop around and the lively activity in the birdbath.

BBQ

We have brilliant barbecue facilities that you are welcome to use at your leisure.

During hot summer months we often hold really great barbecues which usually turn into raucous parties.

Charity Bin

For many of our guests it is the end of the road and their last stop before heading home so they often have clothes that they don’t wish to take back home with them (sometimes also the result of buying too many African curios).  The well-placed charity bin is therefore often full and all donations are gratefully received by various charities in need.  Ashanti is also a founding member of The Tourism Community Development Trust which also benefits from these donations.

Fax and Mail Holding/Sending Service

For your convenience we can send or receive faxes for you and hold your mail for you to collect. We also have a post box so you can be sure your postcard will get there! Stamps and postcards are available at reception.

Laundry Service

Tired of doing laundry? You are on holiday after all. Just hand your laundry in at our reception and if you are in time for the collection, you can pick it up 6 hours later – we have two collections and deliveries per day.

Buzzing Reception

This area - the focal point of daily activities - has everything to offer you 24 hours a day....
Maps, Sim cards, air time, T shirts, stamps, postcards, film, cameras, hairdryers, padlocks, adaptors, towels and lots of friendly advice.

We have a "What's on" board updated regularly with regional events as well as a Weather Board  -  our alternative receptionists who know what's going on in this town are here to serve your every need.

Luggage Storage

Luggage storage is available for those who bring or buy far too much. It is specially convenient if you are going away for a short trip and don't want to drag your whole backpack along with you.  You may also use it if you need to check out at 10am, but your flight is later that night.

Security

We have access control at our main gate and at entrance to the building. Secret pin numbers are given to you upon check-in which allow you 24-hour access. Our security guard from 7pm -7am ensures peace of mind for late arrivals and those traipsing home during the graveyard shift.  Every single person in every single room in Ashanti now has an individual electronic safe for your personal items.

Airport Pick-up

We can arrange a pick-up for you with our regular transport company. This is available 7 days a week and the rates are: (1) to Gardens Lodge R220 for 1 person, R220 for 2 and R240 for 3; (2) to Green Point Lodge R240 for 1 person, R240 for 2 and R260 for 3. Kindly provide your exact flight details including flight number, and we will confirm the arrangements together with cost which is payable upon confirmation of the transfer or secured with credit card details. 

Alternatively, you can take the Airport Shuttle bus from International Arrivals at R 53.00 per person one way.  The bus will stop at the Civic Centre in the city centre from where you can hop onto another bus to Gardens and get off at the Mount Nelson Hotel which is right at the bottom of our road.  The second bus will cost R 7.00 per person.  Please follow this link for more information on timetables and prices for the MyCity bus:

Have your own local cell phone number before arrival!

Receive a simcard with a local cellphone number when you check in for only R20! Your cellphone number will be emailed to you before you arrive in Cape Town! Send an email with your name, day of arrival, and booking reference number to simcard@ashanti.co.za, and your phone number will be emailed to you. Please also advise type of phone as these sim cards will not work with iphones, etc.  Don’t forget to get your phone unblocked before you leave home!
