Q.) What is your booking and cancellation policy for indivuals?
- To secure your reservation we require a non refundable deposit equivalent to the 1st night stay within 7 working days of the original reservation. Provisional bookings not confirmed within 7 working days will automatically be cancelled and made available to other clients.
- The deposit payment can be made on-line via our secure payment agency – Booksure (Ashanti Reservations will send you a link). Alternatively, one can pay by credit card or bank deposit. The remaining balance can be settled on arrival in cash or credit card.
- Cancellation of a booking must be made in writing (via email) and will only take effect once such cancellation has been received by Ashanti Lodge. The 1st night stay deposit paid will be non refundable, however we will refund any other monies paid provided that the reservation is cancelled/amended prior to 14 days before arrival. If cancelled within 14 days – no refunds will be given.
Q.) What is your booking and cancellation policy for groups?
- We gladly accept all groups into Ashanti Lodge Gardens and Green Point. We can accommodate groups of up to 40 people, subject to room availability.
- Any group with more than 10 guests will be considered a group booking. We need to have the details of at least one person that will be the designated tour leader and has a valid credit card. The tour leader agrees to the Ashanti house rules and will be accountable for the group’s actions and charged on that credit card in the event of damage to the property or violation of building codes.
- A form with contact details will need to be filed.
- We require all group bookings to put down the 1st nights stay as a deposit to secure the reservation.
- This deposit needs to be paid within one week of making the reservation; otherwise the reservation will be cancelled.
- The remainder of the balance is due 30 days before arrival.
- Cancellation of your group reservation or reduction in bed numbers must be sent via email at least 14 days prior to arrival. We will retain the 1st nights stay deposit.
- Reservations cancelled or bed numbers reduced with 14 days notice or less prior to the arrival date will receive no refund.
- Rooming list required 14 days prior to arrival.
Q.) Where about in Cape Town is the Ashanti Lodge?
Ashanti Lodge is situated in the safe neighbourhood of Gardens, which is just a 15 minute walk through the Botanical Gardens to the City Centre.

Q.) Do the rates include breakfast?
These rates do NOT include breakfast.
Q.) Do you serve breakfast and how much is that?
Yes, we serve breakfast in the Kumasi Cafe from 07h30. Prices range from R8.50 for croissants and jam up to R45 for a full cooked breakfast.

Q.) Do you offer a pick up service from the airport?
We can arrange a pick-up for you with our regular transport company. This is available 7 days a week and the rates are: (1) to Gardens Lodge R220 for 1 person, R220 for 2 and R240 for 3; (2) to Green Point Lodge R240 for 1 person, R240 for 2 and R260 for 3. Kindly provide your exact flight details including flight number, and we will confirm the arrangements together with cost which is payable upon confirmation of the transfer or secured with credit card details.
Alternatively, you can take the Airport Shuttle bus from International Arrivals at R 53.00 per person one way. The bus will stop at the Civic Centre in the city centre from where you can hop onto another bus to Gardens and get off at the Mount Nelson Hotel which is right at the bottom of our road. Q.) How many beds are in your dorms?
We have 6 bed and 8 bed room dormitories. The dorms and private rooms in the main building are not en-suite but there are plenty of communal bathrooms for your use. The dorm rooms all have private lockers, individual reading lights, individual safes and fluffy white duvets.
Q.) Do I have to bring my own bed linen?
All rooms (including the dormitories) are fully equipped with pillows, pillow cases, sheets and duvets. We suggest you bring your own towel if not staying in an en-suite room, but do have many available at reception to hire if needed.
Q.) Where are the en-suite rooms?
Most of our en-suite rooms are in the lovely Ashanti Guest Houses, which are around the corner from the main building and have a National Monument status. There is a small kitchen for use in each house and all the rooms are equipped with towels. All the other facilities are available for your use here at Ashanti Lodge.
Q.) Can I book tours and adventure stuff with you?
We have a travel centre in the Lodge where you can make all your travel arrangements with our travel consultants or check out our website on www.ashanti.co.za. The centre is open from 08h00 to 19h00 week-day, until 13h00 on Saturdays and closed on Sundays. When the travel centre is closed, our receptionists should also be able to assist you with arrangements.
Q.) Do you have barbeque facilities?
Yes we do have barbeque facilities and they are available for your use at any time.
Q.) Do you have a swimming pool?
Yes, we have a large swimming pool at the back of the hostel.
Q.) Do you have a kitchen where I can prepare my own food?
Yes, we have a large communal kitchen that is fully equipped. You can also store your food in our cupboards or in the big fridge.
Q.) Do you have Internet access, telephone and fax?
We have an Internet Café with 5 terminals. There are 2 public telephones for easy international calls. You are also able to send and receive faxes here. We now also have Wi-Fi access for those with their own devices and each guest has free access (certain restrictions apply).
Q.) Do you have washing facilities?
Yes, we have a hand wash basin and clothes line but also offer a laundry service. There are collections and deliveries twice a day – every day. Everything up to 5 kg costs R30.
Q.) Do you exchange money?
Yes, we do exchange money and traveller’s cheques. We charge a small handling fee but no commission and great rates.
Q.) Can I leave my luggage with you if going on overnight tours?
Yes, we have a luggage storage room that you may use during your travels.
Q.) Do you serve meals in the Ashanti Lodge?
We have our own café on the first floor. It opens for breakfast at 07h30 and the kitchen closes at 10pm. During that time you can order light meals and snacks like sandwiches, nachos, salads, burgers etc. We also serve drinks and cocktails in our bar!
Q.) Do you have a pool table?
Yes, we do have a pool table. Every Tuesday night is our famous pool competition where you can win great prizes like wine tours or abseiling from Table Mountain.
Q.) Do you have your own parking facilities?
Yes, you can park your car in front of our lodge but please park in the direction of the traffic or else you will get a fine. We also advise you to never leave anything (even an old sweater) visible in the car. We have a security guard during the night who patrols the road.
Q.) What are en-suite rooms?
En-suite rooms are rooms with their own bathroom shower and toilet.
Q.) Is it safe to walk into town?
It is safe to walk at daytime. You can get a map from reception and we will show you areas to avoid if necessary.
Q.) How close are shops and restaurants?
The closest supermarket is a three minutes walk away. There are also many restaurants on Kloof Street which is a 5 minute walk from here.
Q.) Is it possible to walk to the V&A Waterfront?
Yes, you can walk to the Waterfront, but it will take between 45 minutes to one hour. It is a nice walk through the town and along the sea. If you don ‘t want to walk you can take a Rikki Taxi or a regular taxi to get there.
Q.) How far are the beaches?
Cape Town’s most famous beaches, Clifton beach and Camps Bay, are within walking distance for the keen hiker. For the rest of us a Rikki or regular taxi takes 15 minutes.
Q.) Can you walk up to Table Mountain from Ashanti?
Yes, it is possible to walk. The best thing is to take a Rikki taxi to the Cable car. Then it is up to you to climb up or to take the Cable station. A walk up takes between two and three hours (depending on the path you chose). The cable car takes 7 minutes to get up to the top.
Q.) Do you have public transport in Cape Town?
There are cheap minibuses and Rikki taxis which are always an adventure. There is also a train running to some suburbs and towns nearby Cape Town.
Q.) What is the difference between a double room and a twin room?
A twin room will have two single beds whereas a double room has one double bed.
Q.) Can I book a campsite spot?
No. All camping is on a first-come, first-served basis as it is difficult to determine the size of tents and reserve space accordingly. |
