Baz Bus
What is the Baz Bus? One of the most significant developments of the backpacking industry in South Africa has to be the Baz Bus, a new concept here but quite well known in many other parts of the world. Specifically designed for budget travellers and backpackers, the Baz Bus picks them up and drops them off at backpacker hostels or lodges around the country. Unlike the Intercity or Greyhound buses, passengers simply buy one ticket to their final destination and can Hop-on, Hop-off wherever and as many times as they like, with no time limit. For those of you on a time-limit -: Hop on a 7day Pass for R1300.- per person or a 14day Pass for R2300 or a 21day Pass for R3100.- per person - These passes enable you to travel backwards and forwards in anywhich way you like within the limited timespan. Information and FAQ
1. Can I bring my surfboard, mountain bike, stereo and chessboard with me on my fabulous Baz Bus adventure through Southern Africa? Of course! Our semi-luxury 22-seater Mercedes Benz are all equipped with trailers capable of carrying all your bits and pieces. 2. How long do I need to get from Cape Town to Johannesburg via Swaziland? The longer the better of course as your ticket has no time limit and there is so much to see and do on route! Do remember that on this route, the Baz Bus does not travel at night making Port Elizabeth, Durban and Swaziland compulsory stopovers In order not to rush it, We would recommend at least 2 weeks.
3. Where do we stay? There is an amazing variety of hostels and budget accommodation offered in southern Africa and the Baz Bus will drop you off at over 200 them. We do not like to make recommendations because every body likes something different, but there is a variety of great travel guides exploring the accommodation. You can get a free copy of the recommended Coast to Coast accommodation guidebook at most hostels. Dont forget the power of The Grapevine! Fellow travellers always ramble on about great places to stay and things to do on route. You will have plenty of time to surf our onboard information files. Some of the hostels also offer camping facilities so feel free to bring your tent. 4. Should I book my accommodation in advance? Most people prefer to play it by ear and book hostels as they go along. During the busy summer season some places do get full and we do recommend a booking a few days in advance, especially for double rooms.
5. How do I book my next stretch & how long in advance? You or the hostel that you are staying at can just contact the Baz Bus central reservation office and reserve your bum on the seat with the next available bus. You can book more than one sector at a time. We usually recommend reserving 48 hours in advance but if there is space a day in advance, its yours! PRICES:
